What to wear to my next photo shoot?

Updated: Aug 1, 2022

Picking out clothes to wear on the daily is hard enough. Picking out clothes to wear to a photo session, that will be in pictures I will see for a life time, is just too stressful. Or is it?

Let's break it down. What colors go together? What would look good on me? Are shape, patterns, and prints cute? Okay my 10 year old is not going to match his sister, is there a way to still have everyone go together in pictures? These are all important questions, especially when you are putting your time and money into getting pictures taken.

What colors go together? I could list one hundred different ways colors go to together, but I would rather make this a simple. The answer to that question is all warm colors go together and all cool colors go together. What is warm and cool colors. Warm colors are red and yellow, or anything that mixes with these colors (plus white and black). Cool colors are blues and anything that mixes with blue. Next question, what about brown? Brown is technically a warm color, depending on the shade. Although, I believe it looks good with both cool and warm colors.

What would look good on me? Two thing you need to be focused on, shape and shade. What is your body shape? Does your outfit complement your shape. Let me say this also, especially for the ladies. Whatever size is on that tag, DOES NOT MATTER. It's not about fitting in the smallest thing you can, it's about wear what makes you look great. Now that we have addressed shape, let's move on to shade. For my darker people, lighter colors are your friend and for my lighter people darker colors are your friend. When wear lighter colors with a darker skin tone you help brighten and define you and your beautiful skin. When you wear darker colors with a lighter skin tone you help contrast you skin tone, and what you're wear isn't going to wash you out.

Are shapes, patterns, and prints cute? To answer this question plainly, yes they are. The real question you need to be asking yourself is, am I paying good money to take pictures of cute shapes, patterns, and prints, or am I pay good money to take pictures of me? I love a good Vera Bradley bag and anything that has a cute pattern, but when you comes to pictures I want to wear and outfit, not the outfit wear me. If your outfit takes away from you and your smile then what good is that? YOU ARE IMPORTANT.

Okay, my 10 year old is not going to match his sister, is there a way to still have them go together in picture? Short answer, YES! I totally is get, it's not "cool" to match your sister. Well guess what, they don't have to. Wear colors that go together are just as cute as matching and can keep our cool dude happy.

I hope after reading this you have felt some sense of comfort in prepping for your next photo shoot. To sum up everything you just read, there's no right or wrong way to do it, simple is better, and do what complement you and your body! I can't wait to see you at our next photo shoot.
